Delegates at UKRCO benefit from education sessions on non-invasive prostate cancer diagnosis tools

Oncology Systems Limited (OSL) demonstrates the benefits of Watson Elementary®, using multi-parametric MR to diagnose prostate cancer on Booth O24 & O35 at UKRCO 2017 (12-14th June)

Oncology Systems Limited is holding a series of education sessions on multi-parametric MR and the benefits it can bring in diagnosing prostate cancer. Watson Elementary is a computer-assisted diagnostic (CAD) tool that simplifies the detection and localisation of potentially malignant lesions within the prostate gland. Clinical Scientists from OSL will be on hand at UKRCO to explain how multi-parametric MR with Watson Elementary brings clinical benefits over other CAD systems; offering increased accuracy and time savings with its intelligent features.



In January 2017, The Lancet published a study[1] on the diagnostic accuracy of multi-parametric MRI and transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy (TRUS-biopsy) in prostate cancer. It found that while men often undergo TRUS-biopsy, it can lead to undesirable side-effects such as bleeding, pain and infection. It reports that the use of multi-parametric MR imaging as a triage test could reduce the need for men to undergo unnecessary biopsies by a quarter, and also improve diagnostic accuracy.



Watson Elementary enables clinicians to determine spatial distribution of malignancy and assess the structural heterogeneity of a lesion to help refine and pinpoint prostate biopsy or treatment target. The unique MAI® algorithm in Watson Elementary gives the user a voxel based prediction of malignancy grade that directly correlates to the Gleason Score. This is fundamentally different from other algorithms, which rely on a non-reproducible and operator-dependent definition of the ROI.
